Portugal

All the Portuguese stories were collected and compiled into a lovely book. Here is a photo of our book and of our puppets.

Johnny's story

These last months Johnny has been very busy visiting several schools around Fundão. He has had a great time! He has been showing our puppets, the “rug of Portugal” and telling pupils and teachers all about our interesting Comenius Project.

In April he went to Tortosendo’s Middle School (Agrupamento de Escolas do Tortosendo) where three different classes from the 5th, 6th and 7th grades had the opportunity to play out Johnny’s story with the rug and the puppets. In exchange they played out a story from a book. They all had a great time.

Johnny was also invited to a Teacher’s Training Secession at São Vicente da Beira School. He couldn’t believe it! He was surrounded by teachers! They all touched him and played with all the puppets. It was so exciting! Teachers loved the story.

Finish of Johnny´s journey in Balikesir

Third week of May 2010. Delegations of three partner schools from Estonia, Iceland and Lithuania arrived to Turkey – final project meeting took place in Balikesir Privat Firat College.

After welcoming ceremony we had tour in beautiful and modern schoolhouse, decorated with many posters, photos and pupils´ drawings. We visited lessons and get aquainted with students and teachers.

Project evaluation and discussions took place in school meeting-room. All participants gave high evaluation to the project activities, which enriched learning and teaching process in school with the international and mylticultural level. We also presented our project book. All partners had finished DVD-s with the puppet shows and gave them to each others. We were interviewed in local Karesi TV talk-show "Biz Bize" and talked about our project, countries and education systems during 20 minutes.

Host school had prepared nice concert of traditional turkish music and dances. We also saw puppet theatre show how Can introduced Turkey to Jussike.

During several excursions we realized, how beautiful and historically rich country is Turkey.

Journey of Can, Joazinho, Giovanni, Jonukas, Jon and Jussike is over now, but our friendship lasts forever.

Our last Project meeting was held in Balikesir in Turkey between the 19th and 24th April. Unfortunately not all of our partners (Estonia, Iceland and Lithuania) were able to participate due to the ash cloud. Their trip was delayed and they will be in Balikesir in May.
The meeting was held by video conference with the Project Coordinator and with the Turkish, Italian and Portuguese partners. We talked about the project and evaluated all the activities done during the project.
We had the opportunity to visit three Turkish schools ranging from Pre School to secondary school. We learnt all about the Turkish culture and the educational system. All the partners learnt, shared and exchanged knowledge about the teaching methods and school function. We also paid a short visit to the Department of Education in Balikesir where we learnt more about Turkish educational system.
Our stay in Balikesir was wonderful. The Ozel Balikesir Firat Ilkogretim Okulu school and all its teachers, staff and students were magnificent. They did their best to make us feel welcomed and at home. The air was filled with happiness, joy and friendship which touched our hearts.
We attended classes from different levels and some open air school activities related to Children’s Day, teachers did some art work and talked to students. There was also a lovely school concert where students sang and danced their traditional songs and dances. Our project meeting in Turkey enriched our souls and knowledge. It was wonderful

Portugal - Exhibition

During the 23rd to the 27th of November at our Middle shool there was an exhibition of all the puppets made with recycling material within our Johnny's Seven Friends project. This project involved 28 teachers and several classes and schools ranging from kindergarten to Middle school. Some of the schools are located in the main town but others are in small villages near by. There are about 60 lovely puppets. In the middle school the puppets were made by the students as they are older while in kindergarten and primary schools teachers and parents helped the young children make the puppets. All the students enjoyed themselves and had great fun making the puppets and playing out the different plays.

There was also photo exhibition about the project meeting in Reykjavik in Iceland. Everyone within the school community had the opportunity to see Korpuskóli Primary School and learn more about Iceland.

Project Meeting in Reykjavik, Iceland

Our third Project meeting was held in Reykjavik in Iceland during the first week of November. All the partners from the different countries got together at Korpuskóli Primary school which is a lovely, modern and very comfortable school. We must congratulate all the Icelandic teachers involved in our project. They were all so very kind and had everything so well planned and organized. They made us feel so comfortable and at home. The students were also very nice and they even tried to communicate with us in English. They were just lovely and their behaviour was excellent. They played out their Johnny’s Seven Friends’ play very well with all the puppets they made. It was very interesting and we all learnt more about Iceland.
It was very interesting to learn all about the Icelandic Educational system which is quite different from Portugal.
Our project meeting was also great. We worked on the picture dictionary, Portugal presented some of their puppets and a story rug, we exchanged information and we talked about our project and future project work.
